| I
have owned many Porsches and none had an air conditioning / defrost system
that worked adequately so I spent some extra effort on installing a proven
system that would provide heat / defrost / and serious cooling power.
The system consists of :
Sanden SD 508 Compressor
8.4ci 134a
Custom SuperFlow condenser
28" x 16"
Vintage Air GEN 2
Compact with defrost
Vintage Air Drier
Upgrade to 1986+ Style
Vents & Dash
Barrier type hose
and bubble fittings
I did not have room
to mount the unit in the stock location and the front trunk was full with
cooling and fuel cell so I decided to sacrifice my glove box and stock
radio location. I cut out a section of the downward curving fire wall
and replaced it with a fabricated steel box section, welded it in place
and lined it with Dynamat Extreme to insulate it. The GEN 2 head unit
is a very tight fit but fits very nicely and has a good position for the
lower vents that face the floor. I cut round holes in the steel box section
to feed the vent ducting through to the head unit, I then sealed the ducts
with black silicone. I made sure not to compromise the integrity of the
fire wall and fabricated the box section out of a comparable steel. The
GEN 2 head unit came with knob controls but the quality it more function
than design so I modified some 911 AC knobs to fit on the GEN2 controls.
I now have a left and right vent, a center vent, two defrost vents and
two foot-well vents. The AC is serious serious COLD!
