Materials: First you need to go to the fabric store and get some white fleece cloth, it is made of polyester and feels kind if like felt. Then you will need to go to the art supply and get some " 3M Spray 77 " adhesive spray. Next you will need go to your local hardware and get: - Aluminum HVAC tape , the shinier the better! - MDF (multi density fiberboard) to make any mold you may want. - Fiberglass and hardener. - Nitral - Rubber painting gloves - Disposable paint brushes - I also use a lot of welding rod as ribs to stretch fleece on. I will explain what I did: I cut my holes in my hood. I put foil tape on the hood around the hole ( this is so the new part does not stick to the hood ) I sprayed the area around the hole with 3M spray and waited a min. for it to get tacky. I laid down a pice of fleece that would overlap the hole by about 4" and pressed it down to sick it to the hood and waited a min. for it to stick. I started putting pressure down on it with my fists and the weight of my body to stretch the fleece in the middle. I inserted welding wire where I wanted bows and fastened them in place with screws. I mixed a batch of fiberglass resin and poured it over the fleece and brushed it around until the area was fully saturated with resin. Allowed it to harden fully in the sun. I removed the screws and welding rod and popped the new part off of the hood. I trimmed the new part to fit inside of the hole in the hood. I then fiber glassed the new part in place and put 8 layers of fiber glass cloth with resin on the backside of the new part to give it strength. |
